Action Items This Week
As part of our campaign to pressure the institutions that act as checks on Trump’s power, we’ll be sending out a weekly list of issues to call your members of Congress and state officials about.
But first, we’ve drafted a guide to help you create an activism plan for 2025. The guide includes research questions to understand your leverage and bring that knowledge into scripts when talking to officials. 5calls.org includes useful scripts that are updated weekly on various topics, but does not include talking points tailored to your particular members of Congress. That’s where our guide aims to fill the gap (it also, we hope, will help you research important questions and get you thinking about your broader plan).
With that said, you can use the weekly list of topics we send to supplement your guide and personal scripts each week, or if you don’t want to fill out the guide you can simply use the 5calls.org scripts we have linked below.
Since government offices are closed on President’s Day, calling yesterday would have led you straight to voicemail. So this week, we recommend:
calling your Senators and House Representative- Tuesday
calling your Governor’s office - Wednesday
calling your state AG’s office - Thursday
Calling Your Senators and Reps
This week, we recommend using your guide and adding in the points from the 5calls.org scripts on the following topics:
opposing Trump’s nomination for FBI Director, Kash Patel (script here)
opposing Trump’s nomination for Secretary of the Education Department, Linda McMahon, and his nomination for the US ambassador to the United Nations, Elise Stefanik (script here)
challenging Elon Musk’s government takeover (script here)
protecting the Department of Education (script here)
The House is also in recess between 2/14-2/28 and during that time offices often hold town halls. This would be a good time to request or attend a town hall with your House representative. A script to do so is here.
Calling Your Governor and State Attorney General Offices
The guide includes a general script for calling these offices. We recommend sticking to that general script of asking our state officials to challenge the Musk takeover and other unconstitutional actions by the administration.
